Hi, my name is Sid Knight and I would like to welcome you to Dognobbler.com, the online arm of my existing specialist trout and salmon fly shop and mail order business.

I have been a keen Game fisherman and a professional Fly Dresser for 40 years and the most important thing I have learned is that this business is based on three criteria which are maintained without compromise - quality, quality, quality.

All the flies that you buy from Dognobbler.com are guaranteed personally hand crafted by me. Unlike a lot of other people (online and off) I do not sell imported flies. When you place an order with me, you will be buying all my years of experience and whatever magic I put into the flies that I produce. My flies are not just 'tied', they are constructed.

After leaving school I started full time working in my Fathers Florists in Wolverhampton, in fact I used to work for him whilst I was still at school, cleaning up and general help. At 18 I went into the army (K.D.G's) and was posted to Singapore/Malaya 1957. After being demobbed I started fly fishing, my first Brown Trout 3/4 lb was from a Welsh stream and my first Rainbow 2 1/2lb was from Clywedog, Wales on a Black Lure. I was immediately converted to being a fishing fanatic and I still think about these first Trout. At that time there was a full closed season, so through the Winter when there was little to do so I started tying flies after taking a 10 week course at evening classes.

At the same time I was also apprenticed in ladies hairdressing, and when qualified had jobs in various salons to gain experience until I eventually opened my own business. I still tied flies in the evenings after work and it was long hours (so nothing has changed). Being Ladies Hairdresser gave me training in the use of colour and texture, something that I also had as a florist and this has been invaluable in fly tying. I have always loved working with my hands and being creative. I started sending samples of my flies to shops in the hope that I could sell them and just earn enough money to pay for any new fishing tackle and the cost of my fishing.

My first order was for 1/2 gross of various wet flies which were supplied to Tom Saville in Nottingham. And since then I have never looked back. Over the years I have tied all the different types of flies - Dry Flies, Nymphs leaded and unleaded, Sea Trout, Salmon, Parachute Dry Flies whatever was required.

This was a fantastic learning period and it gave me the thorough grounding and understanding of what goes into making quality flies. It is very hard work and it takes long hours, but I love every minute of it and there is nothing else I want to do.

My shop and mail order business have been running successfully in Brigdnorth, Shrophire, UK for many years now and I felt that now was the time to take advantage of the opportunities the internet had to offer.

In November 2000 I launched Dognobbler.com as the online addition to my shop and mail order business. There is really nothing different about the new business compared to the existing ones. Every customer will receive personal treatment and will be guaranteed the best quality hand tied flies around.
